Ever walk outside in August or September and think, what happened to that plant?
A shrub that looked full and healthy in June may suddenly have chewed leaves, thin patches, odd discoloration, sticky residue, webbing, or branches that look tired and dry. Sometimes the damage seems to show up overnight. Other times, it builds slowly until one day the plant looks rough enough to grab your attention.
Late summer is one of the best times to spot insect damage because plants have already been through heat, dry spells, heavy rain, trimming, and months of growth. When pests start feeding on leaves, stems, needles, or sap, stressed plants may have a harder time recovering.
The good news is that many pest problems leave clues before a plant is too far gone. A quick walk around the property can help catch issues early, especially if you know what to look for.

Why pest damage becomes more noticeable in late summer
